Supporters sponsor run for Jonas

CEBU, Philippines - To manifest their support for the re-election bid of Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes and their support to the environment, friends and supporters have organized a run today called “I run for Earth, I support Cortes 2010.”

The political and environmental run will start at 6 am today at the Mandaue Cultural and Sports Complex and will follow the route within the reclamation area and back to the sports complex.

“We organize ourselves on the occasion of Earth Day to show our concern for the environment and manifest our support to Mayor Cortes especially that his banner program is caring for the environment,” said Joevin Eusebio, spokesman of the group.

There are three categories in men’s and women’s divisions.

Prizes are: 10 K (kilometer): first prize-P4,000, second prize-P3,000, and third prize-P2,000.

For the 5K, first prize-P3,000, second prize-P2,000, third prize-P1,5000; 3K, first prize-P2,000, second prize-P1,500, third prize-P1,000.

Eusebio said there will be no registration fee and all contestants will be given yellow t-shirts.

   For the 1K run, there will be special prizes for the oldest runner, the youngest, and sexiest, and for the barangay with most number of participants.

All participants are encouraged to wear yellow t-shirts, the official color of the event.

Eusebio said that as of yesterday, 100 have already registered for the 10K run, adding that Mayor Cortes and members of his family will be joining the run.

Awarding of prizes will be at 7:30 am at Mandaue Sports Complex. –
