Electrician zapped dead, another hurt

CEBU, Philippines - In an ironic twist of fate, an electrician was zapped dead while he was working last Thursday night at Lexmark Plaza 1 at the Cebu Business Park.

The fatality was identified as Sherwin Fabella, 30, a resident of Ipil-ipil St., barangay Mambaling, an employee of LJ Industrial Fabrication Inc.

Fabella was rushed to the Perpetual Soccour Hospital but failed to make it alive.

His co-worker, Ian Yaun, 27, of sitio Lumbia, barangay Can-asujan, Carcar, sustained minor injuries after he was thrown some distance away after being zapped.

Investigation showed that Fabella and Yaun were fixing wires inside the building’s powerhouse when they were suddenly zapped and thrown away.

PO2 Dario Manatad of the Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section said that they have yet to check if someone turned on the main circuit breaker at the second floor of the building after it was turned off to allow repairs.

Fabella’s body was taken to the Cosmopolitan Funeral Parlor for an autopsy. – Niña G. Sumacot/BRP   (THE FREEMAN)
