1 killed, 2 hurt in city shootings

One man was killed while two others were wounded in two separate shooting incidents along Junquera Street and F. Jaca Street in Cebu City late afternoon yesterday.

Along Junquera St., Esteban Albios, 29, a resident of barangay Kamagayan, was shot dead by two unidentified men on a motorcycle. His employer, Allan Catalan, 26, was also injured.

PO1 Leroy Baguio said Albios and Catalan were riding a Honda CRV with plate number GSM-201 on their way home from playing basketball in Kamagayan when two men wearing helmet and riding on a motorcycle fired at them.

Albios, who was driving, was hit in the chest and killed instantly.  Catalan fired back at the perpetrators but they were able to escape. Catalan was rushed to the Cebu Doctor’s University Hospital by his brother.

Police recovered 10 empty .45 cal. shells and three 9mm cal. shells from Catalan’s gun.

Baguio said Catalan had been detained in prison for two years, but they are not yet sure if the incident has something to do with his previous police records.

Meanwhile, a certain Jomar Ibarra De Guzman, 23, of barangay Ermita, was shot behind the Pardo Elementary School.

His assailant, who was riding a motorcycle, was not identified.

De Guzman had just been freed yesterday afternoon after being detained for a robbery case. He was arrested last Friday for robbing a motorcycle.  – Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/BRP
