Local retailers assured of more NFA rice supply

Officials of the National Food Authority assured grain retailers in Cebu of more allocation of rice depending on the need of consumers in their areas.

Speaking in yesterday’s opening of the two-day meet of the Confederation of Grains Retailers Association of the Philippines, Inc., NFA deputy administrator Ludovico Jarina said that distribution of NFA rice to retailers will be based on the needs of consumers.

Grecon national president Teresa Alegado said they are glad that NFA has introduced programs which are beneficial to poor consumers.

She cited the “Bigasan Ng Bayan” introduced during the Estrada administration, and now sustained under the Arroyo administration.

Meanwhile, Department of Agriculture-7 regional director Eduardo Lecciones said that his office also spearheaded programs to assist farmers in increasing their production and income. — Jose P. Sollano/MEEV
