Waking Up At Days

CEBU, Philippines - Few hotels with suite rooms that would cost as low as P6,000 per night, could boast to their guest of waking up to a perfect day. En route or going out of the airport, one could see their signage by the road. By daytime the hotel may look ordinary, but actually it is extraordinarily incomparable when it comes to service, security, and accommodation. Not to mention, enchantingly captivating at night with the sunburst lights all lit up.

Sans the facilities of big hotels like a pool, a wide spacious gym, and other amusement facilities, Days Hotel Mactan-Cebu boasts of its warm rooms that promise and deliver utmost comfort – the feeling of home and the comfort of knowing that even the tiniest details of your stay is being taken cared of by warm and accommodating staff.

This can be seen in the attention that the hotel places in the details of the room. What would greet every guest on entering their abode are cute and cuddly animals made with the room towels. The staff is trained to fold 20 different kinds of animals. Not knowing what animal will greet you on entering your room can be a welcoming surprise that will warm your heart and perhaps awaken the playfulness in you. You would actually have second thoughts on using the towels, not wanting to destroy the charming creation. But, hey, everyone needs a bath. So, while you’re at it, why not learn how the towel was turned into an elephant or a cuddly pup by slowly disassembling it. The hotel has four kinds of rooms: Standard, Days Deluxe, Superior and Suite room. All of the rooms have hot and cold shower, cable TV, and except for the standard rooms, has a mini bar with coffee and tea facilities. But what Days boasts is its desire to please the customer, so it would not be hard for you to request for something that you may want to have in your room.

The suite room has a separate receiving area with a sofa that can be converted into a bed, and a kitchenette complete with a microwave oven, silverware and china.

When it comes to convenience, what could be more convenient for a business traveler than a place near the airport, at most 30 minutes away from Cebu’s business districts, a stone’s throw away to the best beaches and resorts in the island, and with fast reliable internet connection in the room and in most public areas?

The hotel also has a function room ideal for meetings, conferences and special events. In fact, they played host to several exclusive product exhibits targeted to a specific market. If you feel like you would need to sing a song to woo your client, then you can check out D’ Music Bar with its wide selection of songs.

And then there is the Oh! Restaurant and Bar with its wide list of offerings in their menu, from the familiar Filipino favorites like adobo and pochero, to the sophisticated continental fares that explore different palates of the globe: Korea’s Bibimbap, Italy’s pasta, or Chinese dimsum, to name a few. The choices are endless. And to tickle one’s interest, the recipes were concocted by none other than the president of the Days Hotel chain in the Philippines, Chef James P. Concepcion, who also owns Ziggurat Cuisine, a known Mediterranean restaurant in Makati.

This month, Oh! will launch the 18 Pillars of Filipino Cuisine, featuring 18 Filipino favorites in its varied regional flavors, like the adobo, which will be served in four different varieties: adobo ilustrado (chicken with liver spread and cooked in red wine and wine vinegar with a dash of spices), adobo chinoy (pork liempo cooked in rice wine and soy sauce and laced with all kinds of spices), adobong Batangas (beef cooked in vinegar and fish sauce, spiced with yellow ginger and turmeric), and the adobong Bicol (pork ribs cooked in coconut milk, soy sauce and white vinegar, with a touch of chili).

The dishes are available all day, and the menu has everything that one would need for any particular meal or time. There are breakfast fares, salads (ensalada cuadro and the Pampanga trio), soups (nilaga and sinigang), noodles, meat dishes, vegetable dishes, and yes, desserts, which can either be the panghimagas quinto (that’s five different sweets) or the pampalamig trio espesyal.

An indication of the hotel’s direction towards becoming Mactan Island’s next event venue is the Al Fresco Bar, open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. With live bands playing till the wee hours of the day, beer and pulutan at a very affordable price, and with no entrance fee, you would not just be partying all night, but would really be getting the value for your money. No frills, just honest to goodness party fun!

Although very accessible, the Days Hotel Mactan-Cebu is safely tucked a few meters away from the main road, ensuring security and the luxury of privacy.
