What’s your favorite Christmas-themed movie?

Queennie Espere - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Looks like everyone is getting pretty excited for Christmas. We can already hear the clamor of children caroling, people giddily shop for presents, friends busy with kris kringles and Christmas decors are seen everywhere.

Surely, there are plenty of ways to celebrate the joyous season. You could go out with your friends or family or just stay home and cuddle with your loved ones. Truth be told, one of the most enjoyable ways to spend time with family at home is to watch a movie. Get a cue from these people’s well-loved holiday flicks:

“My favorite Christmas-themed movie would be ‘Home Alone.’ It brings out the child in me and all that you want from a movie is there, from comedy, drama, suspense, and more.”  - Carl Dave Ang, 23, team leader/supervisor

“I really like ‘Love Actually.’ It shows different relationships that are somehow interconnected with one another. I can relate with Kiera Knightley’s love triangle. For me, it really takes a lot of courage to confess what you feel towards someone who is already committed knowing that it won’t change the situation. All you have to do is wait for your own happiness to come.” – Bai Marwa Salazar, 22, ECE reviewee

“I would want people to watch ‘A Thousand Words.’ It is a comedy showing how important our words are and keeping them. This Christmas season, people should learn to value other people more by keeping their words and promises.” – Mark Borres, 27, professor

“‘Christmas Carol.’ I also love the movie tie-in of the great Charles Dickens’ classic book. There are so many movie adaptations of this story but I like Ebenezer Scrooge’s character as he transformed into a noble man. A classic tale of repentance, forgiveness, and personal reflection in the yuletide season.” - Walter Lasula, 25, academic supervisor

“‘Home Alone,’ because it depicts the love of family but at the same time it is a mixture of humor and the life of a young boy who lives his life responsibly. I believe that that movie is irreplaceable and worth watching. Every Christmas is a time for family gatherings and I think watching movies is one of the activities that gathers families.” – Ramon Hiponia, 20, student

“‘Christmas Carol’ because it makes me realize that it’s not about what you have that matters. It is about what kind of relationship you have with other people — your neighbors, family, friends and even you’re enemies. That’s what matters in this world; it isn’t about money and material possessions, but basically more on the quality of relationship that you establish with others.” - Roberto M. Cabardo, 40, professor

“I love ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ because the film talks about hope and sacrifices. It has a sense of family which is very important during Christmas. Life is like a lottery ticket, it may give all earthly kind of happiness but it’s always far more important than that. Say for example when Charlie was offered to inherit the factory, he still chose his family.”– Caitlin Gayle Yu Plando, 20, registered nurse (FREEMAN)
