On-Set Romance Boosts Ratings Of Dennis Trillo-Jennylyn Mercado Soap

PLUS: Piolo Pascual breaks silence on rumored transfer to GMA-7; Ex-congressman Bongbong Marcos to allow his sons to enter showbiz

The rumor linking Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo is so hot that it triggered an improvement in the rating of their afternoon drama “Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak.” All too suddenly, the people got interested in the drama series inspired by the award-winning film directed by the late Lino Brocka.

Before that rumor linking Jennylyn and Dennis surfaced, “Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak” was somewhat struggling in the ratings. But as soon as the item came out that Jennylyn and Dennis were together in Hong Kong, people became curious and were intrigued to watch the afternoon drama series being directed by Maryo J. delos Reyes.

With public attention on Jennylyn and Dennis on fever pitch, shouldn’t the Kapuso network take a cue and give Jennylyn and Dennis their own drama series on the primetime slot? And for good measure, why not add their ex-flames Mark Herras and Carlene Aguilar in the cast? This is a surefire combination that would make the audience stay in front of their TV sets. But would GMA 7 be amenable to the idea?

Besides, GMA 7 ought to try different casting combinations to boost the rating of their shows. Putting Jennylyn and Dennis, plus Mark and Carlene, in one show should be an interesting viewing fare.

At the meet-the-entertainment press event organized by talent manager Arnold Vegafria for former Ilocos Norte congressman Bongbong Marcos, the only son of former President Ferdinand Marcos and Imelda Romualdez Marcos was asked if his seeking of a seat in the Senate is a prelude to seeking the presidency in the near future.

Bongbong said that seeking the presidency is far from his mind. Well, not for the moment at least. He had been asked about the matter even when he and his family were still residents of Malacañang.

“I didn’t give this matter serious thought, well not for now, at least, or even before,” said Bongbong, who was accompanied by his beautiful wife Liza, and their three sons at the presscon held Monday.

Bongbong even revealed he was a victim of the dagdag-bawas scheme when he first sought the senate seat. But he is hopeful that when Election Day comes on May 10, he and his party (he belongs to Nacionalista Party of Manny Villar) have enough machinery to safeguard their votes against fraud.

When asked what measures he would seek to file into laws, Bongbong said he hopes to file a bill that would help revive the film industry, as well as give a spark of life to the entertainment industry. Bongbong rues the lack of support of the current administration to the culture and the arts, something that he said his mother nurtured during his father’s time.

When asked if he would allow his three sons (who are all good looking) to enter showbiz, Bongbong said yes if his sons have the inclination for it.

“What I told them is whatever it is that they want to pursue, they should do it with passion and give it their best shot. They should also prepare themselves for it. If need be, they should take lessons in acting, singing or dancing. Don’t do anything half-baked,” said the former Ilocos Norte congressman.
