Song blogging

Songwriter Jude Thaddeus Gitamondoc, a batchmate of mine at the 25th Cornelio Faigao Writers Workshop last October, calls his latest project “ambitious.”

Through his Multiply account, Jude invites everyone to “feel free to stay awhile, browse through the pages and listen to the songs.”

“From here on out, I’ll be starting a new tradition of sorts here at MasterWorks, an ambitious concept which I’d like to call song blogging. I’ll be posting at least one, new, unreleased MasterWorks original song every month for everyone’s downloading pleasure, free of charge.”

As Jude urges every netizen to help spread the word around, I’m joining in the call for everyone who has a presence in the blogosphere to stream the songs, write about them or simply about the concept, or link up the page.

This is Jude’s way of countering the piracy problem.

As Jude puts it, “How can someone pirate something which is already given for free?”

One of the songs uploaded into his account—jgmasterworks.multiply.com—is “A Mental Picture of You” for Cattski Espina.

“This acoustic song actually sprung from a healthy bout of professional envy. Cattski had me listen to her then unreleased song ‘Hero’. The song literally floored me. It was at that moment that I decided I should write a song for Cattski,” Jude said.

“It was a challenge writing this song. I had to be faithful to my own ‘voice’ as a songwriter while, at the same time, come up with something that would represent Cattski as a performer. I had fun writing it though. I hope I pulled it off well enough.

“This song is for all those who are tired of love’s drama and I just want to create something beautiful out of something so hurtful,” Jude said.
