Are you leftover?

BUSINESS AFTER BUSINESS - Romelinda Garces - The Freeman

I was staring at the leftover of my dinner last night and thought, what a waste of energy to prepare when after all, not all the carrots, potatoes and peas are consumed. Imagine the energy spent to build that dish only to find a few slices ending up in the bin.

Then I looked at myself in the mirror and reflected ...am I like that morsel? Some leftover?

Sometimes I wish I were younger so I could be able to give the best of myself for the greater purpose of my existence. Perhaps the very prime of my youth could have been spent studying more about what is really important... life as it is or the kingdom of God?

Now before you flip the page and think I am about to preach —think, what to you is your purpose in life? To be a professional? To be a successful businessman? To be a good parent? To be rich? To be renown?

For what? What is the ultimate purpose of your success? Of your wealth? Of your relationships? Your own gratification? The praise of others? As Abraham Maslow describes in his hierarchy of needs? What is true self-actualization? Where lies your sustaining happiness?

Through the pressures of work, the painstaking pursuit of perfection in the conduct of our business or the harrowing ordeal to please, where is the pleasure? We may one day wake up to the fact that what we are left with are our leftover selves to do the main business of our existence. The true reason for being. The business, after business.

Let us not wait for old age to mature to the reality of our purpose. The glory of God!
