Smart best mobile operator finalist in World Communication Awards

MANILA, Philippines - Wireless services leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) was recently named finalist by the World Communication Awards (WCA) in London for Best Mobile Operator as well as Best Operator in an Emerging Market.

The WCA is an annual awards program recognizing excellence in the telecommunications industry. It is organized by London-based industry publication Total Telecom.

Smart was recognized as an outstanding operator for transforming its subscribers’ mobile devices into the biggest content marketplace via non-traditional services like Spinnr, the Philippines’ biggest online music portal. It also earned the nod of judges for striking strategic partnerships with OTT (over-the-top) players to offer its subscribers a wide range of online communications services that complement its call and text offerings.

Smart was also shortlisted under the Best Consumer Service category for PowerApp, Best Brand Campaign for Jump In, and Social Contribution Award for Help.ph

Last year, Smart won Best Consumer Service at the WCA for SmartNet, a platform that allows Smart subscribers to use mobile Internet services safely and affordably.

PowerApp is a revolutionary application that enables Smart subscribers to access various Internet bundles – including Photo, Social, Chat, Email, and Unli packages – for as low as P5. PowerApp is able to bring Internet access closer to more Filipinos while providing a sustainable revenue-generating business model for Smart.

Meanwhile, the Jump In campaign aims to inspire young Filipino barkadas to embrace changes and challenges that will enable them to “Live More.” The campaign also encourages the youth to avail themselves of exclusive Jump In voice, SMS, and data offerings which are both barkada- and budget-friendly.

The Jump In campaign won the prestigious Gold Quill award for business communication in Toronto last June.

Help.ph is a global fundraising campaign organized by the Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Yolanda to allow mobile phone users from all over the world to send donations via SMS. Smart and its subsidiary Smart e-Money, Inc. were recognized by the WCA for providing the mobile money services for Help.ph.

Winners of the WCA will be announced on Dec. 2 in London.
