SMC government sign STOA for SALEX project

MANILA, Philippines — The development of the Southern Access Link Expressway (SALEX) has gained ground as San Miguel Corp. (SMC) and the government have signed the supplemental toll operations agreement for the project.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the agreement signing would pave the way for the start of construction of the four sections of the SALEX, a project seen to reduce traffic congestion in EDSA, South Luzon Expressway, and other major road corridors in Metro Manila through road networks that will service both cargo and passenger traffic..

The project’s four segments include the C3-R10 Extension, Shoreline Expressway, Quirino Extension, and Buendia (Gil Puyat Avenue) Extension.

“The goal to decongest traffic and improve regional connectivity will soon be realized,” the DOTr said.

The SALEX project is also seen contributing to the economic development of the National Capital Region and the Central Luzon.

The project aims to provide an efficient and direct access to the New Manila International Airport or the Bulacan Airport being developed by SMC, supporting the gateway to deliver its full economic potential.

Its first section, the C3-R10 Extension, will connect the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 at Sgt. Rivera in Quezon City to the proposed Shoreline Expressway at R-10.

The second section is the Shoreline Expressway, which starts from Ayala Bridge passing along Ayala Boulevard, San Marcelino St., Padre Faura St., A. Mabini St., Pedro Gil St., and Roxas Boulevard.

The Quirino Extension, meanwhile, will connect MMSS3 at the Quirino Interchange to the proposed Shoreline Expressway and in Roxas Boulevard through an elevated structure.

The last section, the Buendia Extension, intends to connect Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway to the intersection of Gil Puyat Avenue and Roxas Boulevard, the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3, and EDSA.

Earlier this month, SMC, DOTr, TRB, and the Department of Public Works and Highways have also signed the supplemental toll operations agreement for the proposed South Luzon Expressway Toll Road 5 project.
