RP to join Taiwan semicon fair

In a bid to boost the country’s semiconductor industry, seven small to medium semiconductor firms will represent the Philippines in Semitech, a four-day exhibition to be held in Taiwan from May 3 to 6.

Semitech aims to promote interaction among semiconductor firms. The participation of the seven Filipino semiconductor firms was facilitated by Minister Ho Mei-yueh of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs.

"Through Semitech, we hope to speed up the Philippines’ manufacturing competencies, research and development, as well as design capabilities in order to gain a stronger foothold in the global supply chain for electronics," Trade Assistant Secretary Fe Agoncillo-Reyes said.

Reyes is also the concurrent head of the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM).

Industry analysts predict that electronics assembly is projected to reach $1.4 trillion, while electronic manufacturing services (EMS) is projected to grow to $324 million in 2009.

Original design manufacturing, on the other hand, is expected to grow to $134 billion.

Three companies – Symphony Consulting, Blue Chip Designs, and Eazix – would promote integrated circuit (IC) design and firmware development services.

PSi Technologies together with Fastech Synergy, on the other hand, would offer complete turnkey services.

Circuit Solutions and eDesign Technologies would extend board level and printed circuit board (PCB) design services. – Marianne Go
