Church reaffirms stand vs divorce
MANILA, Philippines - The Catholic Church reiterated its stance against the legalization of divorce in the Philippines during the feast of Sto. Niño or Child Jesus yesterday.
Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo warned that divorce would destroy the foundation of families and that children would be the ones to suffer most.
During his homily in the Mass celebrating the feast in Sto. Nino de Tondo Parish in Manila, Pabillo urged the faithful to oppose the proposed legalization of divorce and stand firm on their love for children.
“If the family is destroyed the first to suffer are the children. That’s why we are not in favor of divorce. That is not the solution to a family that is having a problem. The solution is to fix the problem and not separation,” he said.
The prelate saw the need to stress on the threats to the family posed by divorce.
“Sto. Nino is important to us because children are important to us. We see this love for children in our families,” he explained, adding that to love children is also to love the family.
