Lady Red Spikers edge Knights, share NC lead

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — San Beda fought back from a grueling fourth set setback with a gutsy stand in the decider, carving out a 17-25, 25-15, 25-16, 27-29, 15-12 decision over Letran to tie Arellano U on top in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan yesterday.

Cesca Racraquin turned in another superb all-around game of 17 hits, including 14 attack points, 13 digs and nine receptions to power the Lady Red Spikers to their fifth straight victory for a share of the lead with the Lady Chiefs.

The Lady Knights fell to 2-3.

Earlier, St. Benilde rallied from a set down and edged Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-17, 18-25, 21-25, 25-18, 15-7, to seize solo fourth at 3-2.

Rachelle Austero and skipper Ranya Musa fired 17 and 15 points, respectively, including clutch hits that helped carry the Lady Blazers from 1-2 set down to the five-set win.

The win also snapped St. Benilde’s two-game skid following stinging defeats to San Beda, 22-25, 26-24, 25-27, 19-25, and San Sebastian, 25-23, 23-25, 19-25, 23-25.

EAC slid to 0-5.
