Dy takes over Daquis spot
MANILA, Philippines - Rachel Anne Daquis has given up her reserve spot in the national women’s volleyball team competing in the 29th Southeast Asian Games set Aug. 19-31 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Daquis, who lorded it over the field before Alyssa Valdez emerged to become the face of Philippine volleyball, has cited her studies as reason for backing out of the national squad.
Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas, Inc. acting president Peter Cayco yesterday said La Salle star Kim Dy will take over Daquis’ spot.
“We talked and she told me she has enrolled,” said Cayco of Daquis, a member of the Phl squad that saw action in the 2015 Singapore SEAG.
The other team reserve is libero Dawn Macandili, also from La Salle.
Valdez, Jaja Santiago, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Aby Maraño, Kim Fajardo and Denden Lazaro will spearhead the Phl squad with Rhea Dimaculangan, Aiza Pontillas, Gen Casugod, Frances Molina and skipper Mika Reyes.
Meanwhile, the Nationals, who are scheduled to train Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, have not been practicing fully as a team because of the other players’ previous commitments.
