MANILA, Philippines - Iñigo Anton made the switch from karting back to cars and posted a huge win in the opening leg of the Phoenix Petroleum National Slalom Series recently.

Anton, the newly crowned Cadet Karter of the Year and Castrol-Yokohama champion driver, took the “Novice Best Time of the Day” trophy with a 46.18 clocking around the challenging track at Robinsons Novaliches.

He also notched three wins in various divisions while his father Carlos Anton topped the “Front Wheel Drive Best Time of the Day” while winning four others in other divisions.

“To race side by side with Iñigo and for him to take home a Novice Best Time trophy at age 12 is something really special.  He’s amazing.  I won my first Novice best time when I was 20! He is really light years ahead,” said Carlos.

The young Anton struggled early using the Mark Young-Mohspeed Racing Honda EF because it had no power steering and a heavy hand brake.  He adjusted his strategy in attacking the course and quickly improved his time to eventually win the overall Novice crown for the day.
