MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern U and State U gun for second straight victory as they take on Arellano U and St. Benilde, respectively, today in the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan City.
The Tams, who downed the Blazers, 73-67, Wednesday, tackle the Chiefs, the NCAA finalists in two of the last three seasons, at 1:30 p.m. while the Maroons, who outgunned the Mapua Cardinals, 80-72, Friday, face off with the Blazers at 11:15 a.m.
Hubert Cani, a transferee from Ateneo, came through with a solid effort on an FEU uniform, erupting for 18 points including five booming triples to lead the Tams to a rousing win in their first game under new coach Olsen Racela.
Racela, a former PBA star coaching his first collegiate team after stints in the pros and with the Batang Gilas, felt they could have done better in their game against the Blazers.
“There are games that you lose but you feel okay and there are games that you win but you don’t feel good. This is one of those games,” said Racela. “Right now, our goal is to improve every game and we will do it one game and a step at a time.”
Nigerian Prince Orizu will finally play after serving a team-imposed suspension
“He will play,” said Racela of Orizu.
The Chiefs, now without last year’s leader and now PBA standout Jio Jalalon, are eyeing their first win after dropping their first two outings.
The Blazers sport a 1-3 win-loss card.
