Ateneo, DLSU fans urged to keep cool

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – In the wake of the altercation involving Ateneo assistant coach Gabby Severino and La Salle alumnus former Batangas Vice Gov. Mark Leviste in Game One, the UAAP asked the rival universities to “police their ranks” and help maintain proper behavior in Game Two.

In a memo to the board representatives of both AdMU and DLSU, UAAP LXXIX president Fr. Ermito de Sagon of host Santo Tomas asked them to “remind (supporters) to show respect to the players, coaching staff and the league.”

Ateneo and DLSU execs responded by issuing memos to their respective communities.

“May we remind the University Community to maintain proper decorum at the venue, not only during the UAAP games but for all sporting events our school participates in. Our coaches, players and team personnel greatly appreciate your support and likewise appreciate the respect you continue to show to the opposing team and their community,” AdMU board members Em Fernandez and Erika Dy wrote to Ateneans.

DLSU president Br. Raymundo Suplido made a similar appeal to La Sallians.

“May we remind the community to always behave with La Sallian honor, dignity and integrity during UAAP games. Let us rally behind our team and the coaching staff as we continue to uphold the value of sportsmanship inside and outside the sporting venue.”
