Farmer gunned down
ILOILO CITY, Philippines – A farmer was killed while his wife was wounded in an attack by motorcycle-riding men in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo on Friday.
Renato Destacamento, 43, of Barangay Talongadian was declared dead on arrival at the Western Visayas Medical Center in this city due to seven gunshot wounds.
Destacamento’s wife Gerlyn, 40, suffered a bullet wound in the arm and was taken to the same hospital for treatment.
The couple and six companions were about to board a multi-cab when the assailants strafed them in Barangay Balibagan at past 5 p.m.
Probers said Destacamento was the real target of the assailants and his wife was hit by a stray bullet.
The assailants did not harm the couple’s companions.
Police are eyeing a land dispute as the motive for the killing.
