Caluza dominates Cebuana netfest
MANILA, Philippines – Sharryl Caluza dished out top form to capture two titles and lead the charge of the local bets in the Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis Championship Series at the Baguio Tennis Club’s Athletic Bowl recently.
Caluza trounced Angelyn Atos, 6-2, 6-3, in the girls’ 14-and-under finals then rallied to repulse Pangasinan’s Gabriel Abarquez, 4-6, 6-2, 10-3, and clinch the 16-U crown in the event backed by Dunlop as official ball.
Niel Tangalin beat Joshua de Guzman, 7-5, 6-1, to cop the boys’ 18-U title while Angelina Tangalin foiled Caluza’s three title bid with a 3-2 (ret.) win in the 18-U finals of the tournament sponsored by Cebuana Lhuillier headed by president/CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier, also the Philta chairman.
Zire Mina took the boys’ 16-U diadem with a 6-3, 6-1 romp over de Guzman, who earlier defeated Exequiel Jucutan, 6-5 (ret.) for the boys’ 14-U crown.
Other Baguio City winners were Angelyn Atos, who bagged the 12-U title with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Nueva Ecija’s Pia Wong; Dyanna Jenelle Visaya, who trampled Ilocos Norte’s Zandre Mina, 4-1, 4-1, for the 10-unisex diadem; while Jucutan repulsed Rainier Angelo Selmar from Bacoor, Cavite, 6-4, 4-6, 10-4.
