Parks remains scoreless as Legends fall to Spurs anew

Alder Almo - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines -- Bobby Ray Parks, Jr. played his shortest stint in his young NBA D-League career as the Austin Spurs spoiled the Texas Legends' home opener, 110-103, on Saturday morning (Manila time) in overtime at the Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas.

Parks, Jr. played only two minutes in the second quarter grabbing a rebound and missing his only field goal attempt while committing two fouls and never returned to the floor again.  Legends coach Nick Van Exel relied heavily on an eight-man rotation as they fell short in their season debut at home attended by 5,150 fans hoping for a redemptive win.

Instead, the Spurs made it two in a row against the Legends.  They beat them on their home court, 106-81, in their season opener.

This time, however, the Spurs rallied from a nine-point deficit in the second half to force overtime.

Bryce Cotton's three-point play coupled with a series of turnovers from the Legends completed their comeback as they remained unbeaten in four games.

Jarell Eddie led the Spurs with 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting while Cotton and former Brgy. Ginebra import Orland Johnson chipped in 15 and 12 points, respectively.  Former Lyceum Pirates' import Victor Jean Nguidjol, the 16th overall in this year's D-League Draft, got benched.

The 7-foot-2 Indian prodigy Satnam Singh, who was the Dallas Mavericks' 52nd overall selection in the NBA Draft, also received his first DNP for the Legends.

Tu Holloway paced the Legends with 25 points in 40 minutes while center Michael Eric finished with 18 points, six rebounds and three shot blocks for the Legends, who fell to 1-2.

The Legends will host the Oklahoma City Blue Sunday (Manila time) to complete their back-to-back opening home stand.
