Floyd’s dad says Pacquiao in for mismatch vs son

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather Sr. thinks his son shouldn’t waste his time going for a fight with Manny Pacquiao.

And Pacquiao, the elder Mayweather added, should stay away from the undefeated American unless he wants to get beaten badly.

Floyd Sr. once again gave his thoughts on a potential fight between his son and Pacquiao – currently still the biggest bout that could be made in boxing – and is again sticking to his belief that his son will emerge victorious in a one-sided manner.

“The fight isn’t even worth talking about,” the elder Mayweather told Simon Van Besouw of Tha Boxing Voice.

“If they fight, you know what is going to happen to Manny. Even though my son is older now, Floyd is going to take him apart. It would be a mismatch,” he confidently added.

The younger Mayweather took care of business last month when he outpointed Marcos Maidana in a rematch, and in an interesting twist afterwards, declared he’s finally open to facing Pacquiao.

But first, Pacquiao must get past Chris Algieri, his opponent this November, in order to keep the Mayweather bout alive. He has always insisted on his willingness to take on the pound-for-pound king to settle the debate on who’s the best fighter of this generation.

Floyd Sr., for his part, believes otherwise, stressing that Pacquiao is on it only for financial reasons.

“Pacquiao never wanted to fight Floyd. But now that he got knocked out (by Juan Manuel Marquez), he does. He wants to fight Floyd because he needs money,” he continued.

The fighting congressman once said he’s willing to fight Mayweather for charity, but  Floyd Sr. isn’t buying it.

“He knows that if he wants to make money, he needs to fight Floyd. If he doesn’t fight Floyd, he is another poor man you see walking in the streets,” he ended.
