MANILA, Philippines - Army sets out for an “urgent” mission today – a sweep of Cagayan Valley in the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 Open Conference Finals as it primes up for another operation in another volley battlefield.
“We want to get this thing over and done with because we are also playing in the AFP Olympics, which is starting on Tuesday,” said Army coach Rico de Guzman on the eve of Game Two of their best-of-three series with the Rising Suns.
The Lady Troopers beat the reigning champions in four in last Thursday’s opener they highlighted by holding the Rising Suns to a finals low record of five points in the fourth set, 25-19, 18-25, 25-18, 25-5.
Expecting a big rebound from their rivals noted for resiliency, De Guzman said they can only neutralize the Rising Suns not just through their vaunted firepower but reception, blocking and defense.
“I have been repeating these words to my players so that they will never forget during games,” said de Guzman, who even wrote his three-word battleplan on the board inside their locker room during their last practice yesterday.
