MANILA, Philippines — Lagas agad ng isa ang pambato ng Pilipinas matapos yumuko si Florence May Oliveros sa women’s light weight category (60 kgs.) sa 2017 Women’s Youth World Championships na ginaganap sa Nabin Chandra Indoor Stadium - Sarusajai Sports Complex sa Guwahati, India.

Lumasap ang 17-anyos Koronadal, South Cotabato native na si Oliveros ng unanimous decision loss kay Russian Tatiana Konstantinova sa opening round ng torneong may basbas ng International Boxing Association.

Pare-parehong may ibinigay  na 30-26 sina Ramona Cobzac ng Romania, Thampu Nelka ng Sri Lanka, Moses Makhula ng Zimbabwe at Maria Rizzardo ng Italy habang may 30-27 naman si Beau Cambell ng Amerika - lahat pabor sa Russian boxer.

Dahil dito, naiwang mag-isa kay Cagayan de Oro City pride Gena Casin ang pag-asang makahirit ng medalya sa event na nilahukan ng 186 boxers mula sa 38 bansa.

Haharapin ng Batang Pinoy champion na si Casin si Karina Tuvakova ng Russia sa second round ng women’s light weight category (60 kgs.).

Ang torneo ay quali­fying event para sa 2018 Youth Olympic Games na gaganapin sa Buenos Aires, Argentina.
