Clay handa nang idepensa ang korona

MANILA, Philippines -  Handang-handa na si Filipino-American Eric Shauwn Cray na ipagtanggol ang kanyang titulo sa men’s 100-meter at 400-meter hurdles na parehong idaraos sa Martes sa 2017 Southeast Asian Games athletics competition sa Bukit Jalil National Stadium sa KL Sports City sa Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Hindi isusuko ng two-time Olympian ang kanyang titulo sa kabila ng mahigpit na schedule na ginawa ng SEA Games organizing committee.

Gaganapin ang preli­minary round ng 100m dash sa alas-3:10 ng hapon na agad na susundan ng 400m hurdles heats sa alas-4.

Kung papasok ito sa finals, lalaban si Cray sa 400m hurdles finals sa alas-8:20 ng gabi kasunod ang 100m dash finals sa alas-9:40 ng gabi.

“I’ll go for both. I’m not gonna hold and go out there to win the gold,” pahayag ni Cray.

Inaasahang mapapalaban si Cray sa mahusay na Malaysian sprinter sa 100m dash.

“Going from the longer race to the shorter race is not an issue. The issue is if Cray were to race in the 100 first before the 400 hurdles. That would be an issue,” ani American athletic consultant Eugene Rohsaan Griffin.

Nauna nang umapela sina national team chef de mission Cynthia Carrion at Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association (Patafa) president Philip Ella Juico sa Malaysian SEA Games organizers noong Hunyo na paghiwalayin ang dalawang naturang events.

Halos 30 minuto lamang ang pagitan ng dalawang events kaya’t nais sana nina Carrion at Juico na ilipat sa ibang araw ang isa sa dalawang events.

Ngunit hindi sumang-ayon ang Malaysia SEA Games organizers.
