NORTH COTABATO, Philippines — Five villagers, two of them minors, were hurt in a grenade explosion in Barangay General Luna in Carmen, North Cotabato at past 6:00 p.m. Friday.

Chief Inspector Julius Malcontento of the Carmen municipal police said the victims, among them a child, were dining together in a house when a still unidentified man hurled at them a grenade through an open window.

The suspect ran away as the powerful blast ripped through the house, owned by a farmer named Larry Mundo.

The explosion injured David Orteza, Joel Aragon, Henry Nobleza and the two minors, now undergoing medication in a hospital.

Malcontento said there is a possibility that the target of the bombing could either be Mundo or a guest, Renato Luna, incumbent chairman of Barangay General Luna.

Ortiz and Mundo both survived the grenade attack unscathed.

The blast victims, who sustained shrapnel wounds in different parts of their bodies, were guests of Mundo, who tendered for them, along with Ortiz, dinner in his house, located in Purok Pag-Asa west of Barangay General Luna.

Malcontento said probers are still trying to identify the culprit and the real motive for the bombing, which scared villagers residing in farms nearby.
