Grab rolls out carpooling service

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Southeast Asia’s leading ride-hailing app Grab has rolled out a new carpooling service called GrabShare.

“After the success of our first run in Singapore, we’ve decided to bring GrabShare to Manila for the benefit of the Filipino commuters. With it, we can deliver more affordable rides to our passengers and provide higher incomes for our drivers,” Grab Philippines’ country head Brian Cu said.

Through GrabShare, passengers can enjoy reduced fares of up to 30 percent compared to booking a GrabCar, in exchange for sharing their ride with another passenger.

A maximum of two passengers going to similar routes are matched into a single ride to make sure passengers still get to their destination at the shortest time possible.

Apart from providing benefits to passengers, the service also helps drivers earn more by completing two bookings in one trip.

It likewise contributes to easing congestion as it reduces the number of cars on the road needed to bring passengers to their destination.

Within two months since the launch of the new carpool service in Singapore in December last year, the ride-share app completed two million GrabShare rides covering a total distance of about 20 million kilometers.

Grab also saw a 15 percent improvement in passenger matching rate, as well as an average of 10 percent growth in drivers’ monthly incomes.
