Public warned of con men using Sara’s name
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Presidential daughter and this city’s Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Saturday advised the public to be wary of individuals who are using her name to solicit money.
City information officer Jefry Tupas said the mayor learned that a certain Nathan Garanzo has been using her name to solicit money from the public and even from politicians.
“Mayor Sara has not authorized anyone to solicit money on her behalf nor is she involved in any fundraising activity for Batanes as reportedly claimed by Nathan Garanzo,” Tupas said.
Reports said Garanzo has been asking donors to deposit the money in the bank account of a certain Retchie Banduriao, who was made to appear as chief of the mayor’s finance team.
The mayor was told that a certain Charisma Jaranilla sent a text message to a lawmaker asking for cash donations for victims of the recent Davao bombing.
Jaranilla allegedly claimed the mayor authorized her to solicit money.
Duterte-Carpio said she did not authorize anyone to solicit money for the victims of the Davao bombing and typhoon in Batanes. She said any donation for the blast victims are directly given to their families by the city officials or deposited in the Landbank account of the city government.
