Sara not resigning as Davao City mayor

The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has denied reports that she is resigning from her post.

“There is no truth to that rumor... I heard it. I just enjoyed reading the comments of those on Facebook about the rumor,” Carpio told reporters yesterday.

She said she would assume her post today after her 22-day leave ended yesterday. She said she had appointed the department heads of the city government.

Carpio went on ”vacation leave” a day after attending the inauguration of her father President Duterte. She designated the vice mayor, her brother Paolo, as acting mayor.

She  said she went on leave because there were contractual obligations that she had to fulfill before she worked full-time as mayor.

“I cannot do those contractual obligations if I am in office,” she said.

Carpio said she is flying to Manila on Monday to attend her father’s first State of the Nation Address.

She said she had notified her brothers – Vice Mayor Paolo and Sebastian – that she would attend the SONA.
