Eagle renamed in honor of Rody

The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philipines – An adopted Philippine Eagle called Pagmamahal has been renamed Pagbabago in honor of President Duterte, who was mayor of this city for 23 years.

The 15-year-old male eagle was adopted by the family of businessman Uy Ching Siong Cang of this city.

“We changed his name to Pagbabago to express my joy for the victory of President Rody Duterte. Renaming the eagle will usher in this new age of positive change,” Uy said, adding the President was like a son to him.

Uy adopted the giant raptor in 2012. An adoption would mean an annual donation of P125,000 to finance the bird’s food, shelter, maintenance, keeper and veterinary care.

Pagbabago was born in captivity through natural pairing at the Philippine Eagle Center in Barangay Malagos, Calinan district in this city.

The center is run by the non-profit Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF).

Pagbabago is an offspring of eagles Kalayaan and Robinhood, which were part of the  Malagos eagle center’s captive breeding program.

The renaming of the eagle was said to be in line with the family’s support to the PEF, by renewing their adoption of Pagbabago.

The renewal of adoption means continuous support for the foundation and its mission to help save and protect the Philippine Eagle.

PEF executive director Dennis Salvador thanked Uy, as he expressed hope that more individuals and organizations would support efforts to conserve and save the Philippine Eagle.

Pagbabago is expected to help raise the dwindling eagle population by producing offspring.
