MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang Saturday appealed to the public to wait until the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) completes its investigation on the leaked data of Filipino voters stored in breached Commission on Elections (Comelec) database.

Based on reports, there were calls for the Department of Justice (DOJ) to file a case against Comelec for compromising personal and electoral security.

Malacañang applauded the NBI for their efforts to apprehend the people responsible for hacking the Comelec website.

On Friday, the NBI arrested Jonel de Asis, a 23-year-old information technology graduate, who was the mastermind behind the hacking.

Prosecutors earlier recommended P600,000 bail for the temporary release of Paul Biteng, 23, the first suspected hacker arrested by the NBI.

According to Quezon, the Comelec would implement several security measures which include tightening the access for data of precinct finder and not using the website anymore. - Kristine Daguno-Bersamina
