State of calamity declared in Calasiao over flooding

CALASIAO, Pangasinan, Philippines – The municipal council here has approved a resolution declaring a state of calamity due to massive flooding brought by Typhoon Luis.

Several barangays remained flooded as of yesterday.

Some barangays in Dagupan City were also submerged in floodwaters.

In Barangay Nilombot in Sta. Barbara town,  police recovered the body of a woman, believed to be a victim of drowning.

Meanwhile, in Floridablanca, Pampanga, at least 27 persons who were stranded along the banks of Gumain River at the height of the typhoon on Monday have been rescued, according to Senior Superintendent Marlon Madrid, Pampanga police acting director.

The group, composed of 18 adults and nine children, had a picnic and an off-road activity near the river when it overflowed due to heavy rains. – Eva Visperas, Ric Sapnu
