Manila to hold painting contest for students
MANILA, Philippines - Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada will sponsor an on-the-spot wall painting contest for high school students at the Manila North Cemetery on Dec. 18.
The competition aims to inculcate the values of art and cleanliness, Estrada said yesterday.
“The students should be taught how to care for the environment, and use their talent in promoting cleanliness and environmental conservation,” he said.
Daniel Tan, director of the Manila North Cemetery, said the painting contest would be held from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside the 54-hectare cemetery along A. Bonifacio Avenue.
“This is part of Mayor Estrada’s beautification programs,” Tan said.
At least 120 students from private and public high schools in the city will participate in the event themed “Manila forward ever, backward never.”
All winners will receive trophies and cash of P50,000 as first prize; P20,000 for second place and P10,000 for third prize.
Tan said 20 consolation prizes of P2,000 would be given away.
