Lightning stops MRT operations
MANILA, Philippines - The Metro Rail Transit Line 3’s operations were disrupted Sunday night when lightning hit a cable that supplies electricity to the MRT-3’s trains.
A train stopped between the Santolan and Ortigas stations at around 6:40 p.m. after the catenary cable on top of the train was hit, said Cherie Mercado, Department of Transportation spokesperson.
Though no one was reported injured, passengers, escorted by MRT-3 personnel, were forced to walk back to the Santolan station.
The lightning strike also forced the rail line to limit operations from Taft Avenue to Shaw Boulevard only.
Officials were set to conduct safety tests yesterday morning, Mercado said.
