Impeachment rap submitted vs. Morales
MANILA, Philippines — Pro-Duterte groups trooped to the House of Representatives on Thursday to submit an impeachment complaint against Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.
The groups accused Morales of inculpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, treason, bribery, graft and corruption and other high crimes.
Signing as petitioners are Martin Dino of the Volunteers against Crime and Corruption, Evelyn Kilayko of the Tanggulang Demokrasya Inc., laywer Eligio Mallari of the Vanguard of Philippine Constitution Inc. and families of the 44 Special Action Force officers killed in Mamasapano in 2015.
They were assisted by lawyer Manuelito Luna, who also filed impeachment raps against former Commission on Elections chair Andres Bautista and administrative raps against Overall Deputy Ombudsman Melchor Arthur Carandang.
The groups, however, said that they are yet to have a solon to endorse their complaint.
Under the House rules, a complaint will only be formally lodged in the House of Representatives Committee on Justice when it is properly endorsed by a lawmaker.
This is a developing story.
