MANILA, Philippines — All types of sea vessels will not be allowed in various areas of the Manila Bay from November 5 to 16 for the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit.

Department of Interior and Local Government Officer-in-Charge Catalino Cuy said that a No Sail Zone will be set in the vicinity waters of H2O Hotel in Manila City to OKADA Hotel in Parañaque City for 12 days.

“Maximum maritime security is part of our safety preparations to ensure that the short stay of our ASEAN delegates in our country will be as peaceful, safe, and secure as possible,” Cuy said.

Moreover, the shoreline from H2O Hotel to the mouth of Pasig River will be designated as a controlled zone during the same period. A controlled zone means that all vessels coming in and out of the shoreline will be escorted by patrol boats of the Philippine Coast Guard.

Vicinity waters within one nautical mile from the said areas are excluded from the implementation of the No Sail Zone and the Controlled Zone.

“We are covering all fronts because the safety and security of our delegates is our primordial concern. We therefore request for the full cooperation and understanding of our seafarers so that the upcoming ASEAN summit will be safe and incident-free,” Cuy said.

The 31st ASEAN Summit will be simultaneously held in Manila and Clark, Pampanga from November 11 to 14. US President Donald Trump is confirmed to attend.
