MANILA, Philippines — Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano will discuss terrorism, nuclear weapons and other common threats as he takes the world stage before the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Cayetano will deliver President Rodrigo Duterte's message to the international community in the annual event that brings together world leaders.

The statement, which will be delivered on Saturday, will focus on the need to address the threats posed by the so-called Islamic State and the missile test launches of North Korea, according to Philippine Permanent Representative Teodoro Locsin, Jr.

The Philippines' top diplomat will also share before the UN member-states the efforts of the Philippines to protect the rights of Filipino migrant workers and the ongoing campaign against illegal drugs, a move that has wide support in the Philippines but has also raised concerns abroad on alleged human rights and due process violations.

Cayetano will have bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Belgium, Colombia, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Morocco, Norway, Poland, the United Arab Emirates and the Vatican.

The Foreign Affairs secretary will host an informal meeting with his ASEAN counterparts and they will attend a meeting with the president of the UN General Assembly and UN Secretary General António Guterres.

Cayetano will also meet with members of the Filipino community and speak before the Asia Society, according to New York Consul General Maria Theresa De Vega.
