Trillanes produces documents of Duterte kids’ bank accounts

Marvin Sy - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – After coming out with details of the bank accounts of presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV yesterday released information on the accounts of Duterte’s three children, where close to P300 million in deposits were allegedly made over a period of 12 years.

Trillanes distributed to the media a set of documents listing numerous transactions in different bank accounts allegedly held by Duterte’s children – Paolo, Sara and Sebastian.

Trillanes said the documents came from the same source, Joseph de Mesa, who provided details of Duterte’s accounts, which allegedly contain up to P2.4 billion.

The senator explained that his office had just completed validation of the documents, which was why he only released them yesterday.

Based on the documents, Duterte’s eldest son Paolo, the vice mayor of Davao, owned accounts in at least seven banks, a number of which were held jointly with his mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman.

A total of 25 transactions were listed in the documents for Paolo’s accounts, with all deposits amounting to P71,812,067.13.

These transactions covered the period of June 16, 2003 to Nov. 10, 2015, of which the smallest was P535,000 and the largest was P20 million.

The document listed the banks as PNB in Sta. Ana, Davao; BPI-Philam Life Assurance Corp.; RCBC, Bank of Commerce Davao City Hall; BPI Davao Main; Asia United Bank Davao City, and PNB Valenzuela.

In the case of Sara, former mayor of Davao City, the document listed 47 transactions, all deposits amounting to P111,634,144.05 from April 2003 to December 2015.

Most of the accounts were under the name of Sara, while there were others that were joint accounts with her husband Manases Reyes Carpio, her son Mateo Lucas, her mother Elizabeth, Mayor Duterte, and brothers Paolo and Sebastian.

The document listed the smallest transaction at P530,000 and the biggest at P42.423 million.

These accounts were contained in the Metrobank Kayamanan, BDO Davao Riza, Metrobank Ecoland, Landbank Davao, Metrobank Davao CM Recto, BPI Davao Main, BPI Julia Vargas, BPI Philam Life Assurance Corp., BPI Greenhills EDSA, BPI Family Savings Bank Davao, Philippine Savings Bank Olongapo, and Union Bank R. Mercedes.

For Duterte’s youngest son Sebastian, the document listed 59 transactions from November 2003 to April 2014, amounting to a total of P113,232,325.50.

Just like his two siblings, the accounts held by Sebastian were either under his name alone or joint with his mother, father and a certain John Patrick Angeles Co.

The deposits for Sebastian’s account ranged from P502,745 to P20 million.

The accounts were held in BPI Philam Life Assurance Corp., BPI Davao Main, BPI Investment Management Inc., BDO, Unionbank Davao, and Union Bank Shaw, Mandaluyong.

According to Trillanes, Paolo and Sara did not declare any of those amounts in their respective statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN).

The senator said after seeing the documents, he was convinced “Duterte is actually the Binay of Davao City. Same political dynasty and same pattern of corruption.”

Trillanes also presented a list of 40 properties allegedly listed under the names of children of Duterte and another nine “known addresses” of the family.

Trillanes’ office also distributed several videos showing retired Army Maj. Gen. Jovito Palparan campaigning against Duterte as a presidential candidate.

In the videos, Palparan talked about the supposed relationship between Duterte and the New People’s Army. – With Edu Punay, Richard Mercurio
