MANILA, Philippines –The colleagues and co-candidates of late Overseas Filipino Workers’ (OFW) Club party-list Rep. Roy Señeres were saddened by his death on Monday.

House Speaker Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr., Señeres’s co-candidates, Sens. Grace Poe, Francis "Chiz" Escudero and Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos as well as Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and the Commission on Elections were among those who offered their condolences and prayers forhis family.

The officials said they were shocked by Señeres’s sudden demise.

“We are saddened by the untimely passing of our colleague, Roy V. Señeres. In behalf of my colleagues at the House of Representatives and of my family, I extend my sympathy and prayers to Roy’s loved ones and offer our great respect and gratitude for his unwiring dedication and sincere service to our nation onto the very end,” Belmonte said in a statement.

"We are with you in this time of grief and difficult time," Duterte said.

Señeres’s colleagues and co-candidates recognized the contributions and accomplishments of the late ambassador whose agenda was to provide better working conditions for the local workers and the welfare of OFWs.

Poe said Señeres “leaves a legacy as a champion of the welfare of OFWs while Marcos added that as a diplomat who also served as the Philippine Ambassador to United Arab Emirates, Señeres “fought for the causes of the oppressed labor sector as chairman of the National Labor Relations Commission.”

The officials said Señeres is a great loss to the labor sector especially to OFWs.

“He is a big loss to the OFWs and their families, whose causes and concerns he had fought for,” Escudero said.

Señeres, 68, died of cardiac arrest triggered by complications from diabetes on Monday morning. He passed away three days after he withdrew his presidential bid.
