Potential cyclone expected to enter Phl
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) that is expected to enter the country on Sunday.
Weather forecaster Manny Mendoza said in an interview with state-run Philippine News Agency that the LPA was spotted around 2,000 kilometers east of southern Mindanao.
He said the weather system will bring rains over eastern Visayas and Mindanao upon entering the country.
In an interview over radio dzMM, PAGASA forecaster Alvin Pura said the potential tropical cyclone may hit land by Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
Both forecasters said the LPA may intensify into a tropical depression that will be named "Domeng," the fourth cyclone to enter the country this year.
The Japan Meteorological Agency, which has different standards, has classified the LPA as a tropical depression.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said in its daily weather forecast that the easterlies continue to affect the eastern section of northern and central Luzon.
The entire archipelago will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.
Light to moderate winds coming from the east to northeast will prevail over northern and central Luzon and coming from the northeast over the rest of the country.
Coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
