MANILA, Philippines — Miss Philippines Earth 2017 front runner Samantha Viktoria Acosta from Pulilan, Bulacan was once again a standout during a recent event held at the Luxent Hotel in Quezon City.

Awarded by the press as the "Darling of the Press-Gold," the 19-year-old student of University of Asia and the Pacific taking Entrepreneurial Management caught the attention of the people in the event hosted by MySLim.

“I was really honored for the title 'Darling of the Press' because as a ‘darling’ I have the platform so that I can inspire everyone to listen to me. Hopefully, I can be the darling of the judges, too. And that is I really hope for,” she told Philstar.com in an exclusive interview.

Acosta said that as a kid, she really loves nature and protecting it is her advocacy. “I joined Miss Philippines Earth because I was attracted to its cause toward the environment. Ever since I was a child, my parents have instilled values that I need so I can be a better citizen for this society. My focus is merely in preservation of the environment.”

When asked what is her edge over the other candidates, Acosta said:“My edge in winning this pageant is I really have the passion and the heart for the environment because I really love kids that is why I focus my advocacy toward the youth. I want to inspire them to allot at least five minutes of their time every day to do something meaningful for the environment because I believe ‘it’s just five minutes of our time everyday’ so I think no matter how small it is for our Mother Earth can be a beginning of something big.”

Apart from Green Time, which is the 'five-minute every day for the environment,' Acosta said she also focuses on the usage of the 5Rs – rethink, reduce, reuse, recycle and respect. “If we use this 5Rs we will be able to develop ourselves to have values that can really help preserve our Mother Earth.”

Acosta said she is ready for the pageant that will be happening on Saturday, July 15. “I have been really preparing for this pageant all along. I have conditioned my heart, my mind, spirit so if ever I’ve been blessed to be crowned as the Miss Philippines Earth 2017, I can use my charisma and my voice so that I can inspire everyone for the environment.”

As for her beauty secret and her gorgeous body, Acosta said that besides from diet and exercise, she drinks MySlim, a slimming product that works in tandem with healthy lifestyle choices to create a slimmer and healthier you. The product is said to be scientifically proven as a potent mix of Yerba Mate, Carnipure and Palatinose.

Apart from Darling of the Press-Gold, Acosta also received special awards such as Bronze Medal for the Makeup Challenge and Silver Medal for the Resorts Wear Competition.

If given the crown, Acosta said she will make the Philippines standout in the international stage by showing them the resiliency of the Filipinos. “No matter how many natural disasters happened, we are always really not dwelling in the fact that we are devastated by these disasters and also I would like to voice out to the whole world using social media that we Filipinos are resilient and hospitable.”

Is she going to take home the crown? Watch out this July 15, 7 p.m. at Mall of Asia Arena, with a telecast on July 16, 10 a.m. on ABS-CBN.
