The united accents of Filipino teens
MANILA, Philippines – In Pinoy Big Brother Lucky Season 7 Teen Edition, Kuya’s famous house takes the tantalizing ambiance of a living space, in the midst of lush tropical paradise with the kitchen island resting on a carabao painted with multi-colored geometric forms.
Then you will hear the 12 hyper and happy housemates unabashedly speaking in Filipino, a sprinkling of English or a mix of both in slight or heavy regional or continental intonations. They sure sound like the united accents of Filipino teens with the predominance of the Visayan drawl.
But brogues have this ability to draw out character, too, and bring out its ugly side.
Rita Gabiola reunites with family inside Kuya’s house
Zamboanga-born “Badjao Girl” Rita Gabiola, 14, who speaks Filipino with a hint of her Sinama dialect sobbed uncontrollably when Maymay Entrata, 19, from Cagayan de Oro City; Fenech Aimee Veloso, 13 and Vivoree Esclito, 16, from Bohol; Kisses Devalin, 17, from Masbate; with “Yakult Girl,” Kristine Hammond, 16, from Biñan, Laguna; and Heaven Peralejo, 17, from Makati laughed after showing her garment.
The boys pulled a frank by not talking to the girls aggravating Rita’s condition. She perceived that as in-fighting with Zamboanga-born Christian Morones, 15, and Yong Mijahil, 16, who leads the meal prayers, yes, in Arabic with the correct pronunciation; Aizan Perez, 14, from Padre Garcia, Batangas with the definite Batangueño twang; Marco Gallo, 15, from Italy who does not trill his R’s with its lack diphthongs, and Edward Barber, 16, from Germany, who talks in English more American than German.
Then in reconstructing Rita’s shack in the Activity Area for the celebration of her sister’s birthday, Marco’s Italian blood boiled when after pouring water on the resting Christian he displayed taciturn attitude that proceeded to a heated and extended verbal exchange.
In both cases, Kuya turned master peacemaker and revealer of true character. His house turns happy once more, oh well, until the next challenge and conflict.
