Jake Cuenca applauds international success of Filipino celebrities
MANILA, Philippines – Jake Cuenca feels proud that he’s one of the Filipino celebrities who recently brought pride to the country.
He has won the best actor award at the Brazil Cinema Festival for the film “Awaken.” While Jaclyn Jose won best actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for the film “Ma’Rosa,” and Sid Lucero won best actor for the film “Toto” at the 19th Los Angeles Comedy Festival.
“Nakakatuwa lang ang daming nanalo, sabay-sabay, e,” he said during a press conference on Friday.
He believes that these awards serve as proof that “if they give us more budget, more original stories, we can do more for the industry.”
The Kapamilya actor also took the opportunity to call out to his fellow actors and actress to “think outside the box and do roles that challenge you.”
As for those who comments about his “overacting” tendencies in his projects, Jakes prefers to brush it off.
“I do what the director asks me to do,” he explained. “If the director wants it subtle, I’ll do it. Kung gusto niya ibigay ko, ibibigay ko.”
