Joy Jonette Chuyaco - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Oh yes, it’s that month again when romance is celebrated at its best. Valentine’s Day is definitely the most exciting time for lovers, couples and those who are eagerly searching for love. Romance can bring about several feelings, both good and bad.

Movies, of course, also have a way of giving viewers some points to ponder on relationships and romance. So, here are some notable movies and their advices about the dating world. Happy Valentine’s Day y’all!

He’s Just Not That Into You. If there’s a movie that could be an ultimate guide to dating, then this is definitely the one. Without exaggeration, the entire movie deals with dating different kinds of people and how they could end up either good or bad. The final note of the movie: Sometimes, he or she is just not that into you, so better move on.

Serendipity. A movie that says how destiny plays a big part in what happens to us. In the movie, the two main characters meet and are clearly attracted to each other but circumstances get in the way. As they move on with their lives, they are again brought together and this time it may be their chance.

Bridget Jones’ Diary. The film follows Bridget and her dating life as she seeks to find the right man. Her diary tells it all and what’s interesting is that we (girls) can relate to it. She makes mistakes, too, just like us; but she picks herself up and starts again, which is what we should do. Experiences will make you stronger and wiser.

Something’s Gotta Give. One is a man who wants to play around and just enjoy life. The woman is a divorced writer who seems to have given up on finding “the one.” What do they have in common? They are both in their senior years — is there a possibility for love? Well, love has its way. Never give up on it!

The Perfect Guy. A woman, who just broke up with her boyfriend, starts to date again and finds the perfect guy. He seems to be who she needs. Well, not for long, as red flags start to show.

Just when she thinks she can just break it off, he clings to her like glue. Lesson: Don’t date too soon after a break-up, give yourself time to heal and reflect. Plus, if someone seems too perfect then think again, because no one is.

Hitch. Got a dating problem? Let the date doctor, Alex Hitchens, help you. He specializes in guy-relationship struggles. However, this time, he finds himself in a position he thought he would never be in. But he gets through it, anyway. Sort of clueless about dating? Watch and learn.

When Harry Met Sally. Harry and Sally are close friends. Everything seems to be going along fine until they start questioning if it’s really possible for a man and a woman to remain as friends and nothing more. Guess this has been a question of many. Watch this movie and find out what Harry and Sally think.

Sleepless in Seattle. Would you take a chance in someone you’ve never met but only have a slight idea of? Well, the movie is about two people taking their chances. There’s hesitation. There’s fear. Who says love is easy and doesn’t require you to risk? Love won’t be so special if it’s that easy.

Must Love Dogs. A 40-year old, divorced pre-school teacher enters the dating scene again after her sister put up her profile at a dating site. What happens next is a series of hilarious dates that spices up her life.

She then finally meets someone who gets her interest, but it seems like their first few meetings don’t go well. But they could turn into something romantic someday. Sometimes, the first few dates could be total failures but the next ones could be successful.

Singles. The film is about a group of young people trying to find love and learning about life at the same time. It’s not easy and it comes with challenges that make them almost give up. The key is to just go on and enjoy life. If you fall, get up again and start over.
