Maynila re-launched

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  Since 1999, Maynila has been on air as a block-timer for GMA 7 and continues to inspire young Filipinos to this day. Set in the city of Manila, the show features stories of youthful love, and highlights Filipino values and morals.

Through the years, Maynila has been consistent in maintaining its ratings. The show is independently-produced by Maynilad Golden Production, Inc., and was originally hosted by former Mayor of Manila, Lito Atienza.

Maynila has been expected to tell stories of young love. Last Sept. 13, the show was re-launched with a new theme titled Maynila, Ang Kwento Mo.

It will continue to feature artists from GMA 7 and the different networks, and Rep. Atienza will still appear in each episode in cameo roles, instead of as host.

Before, the show would focus on stories of teenage romance, but now it will be a more holistic demonstration of the lives of people in Manila. These will be stories that any member of the family, young and old, will be able to relate to. The new Maynila will showcase family problems, identity crises, trust issues between couples and all other scenarios pertaining to the everyday lives of our audience, with Filipino values still at the heart of each story.

Fans of the show will be able to send in their “suliranin,” from which the show can base its storyline. It represents a contemporary revival for Maynila and aims to achieve new viewers who watch in hopes of their story being told.

Maynila airs Saturdays at 10:30 a.m.
