CEBU, Philippines — After the city of Talisay, Carcar is setting up the stage for its own inter-commercial basketball tournament.

Billed as the 2017 Mayor Nice Apura Inter-Commercial Basketball Open, the ground-breaking spectacle will kick off on November 4 at the Carcar Sports Complex.

"Aside from giving the Carcaranons an opportunity to witness highly entertaining hardcourt action as part of our annual fiesta offering, this event is also in support of the initative of Cong. Samsam Gullas to make commercial basketball alive and kicking in the First District of Cebu," said Mayor Apura in a press conference yesterday at Raphael's Sports Cafe in SM Seaside City.

Four teams studded with commercial veterans and former collegiate stars will vie for top honors in the week-long tilt that is among the highlights of Carcar's fiesta celebration on November 25 in honor of their beloved patroness St. Catherine de Alexandria.

These are the SG/ARQ Builders, Aspa Scaffolding, Sherilyn Plastics, and Bogo City.

They will play in a single round robin format, with the top two qualifiers slugging it out for the championship in a winner-take-all affair.

The champion will take home P50,000, while the second to fourth placers will pocket P30,000, P20,000 and P10,000, respectively. (FREEMAN)
