House resolution honors cardinal

Gregg M. Rubio - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — All Cebuano members of the House of Representatives led by Cebu City North District Representative Raul del Mar have filed a resolution honoring the late Ricardo Cardinal Vidal.

House Resolution No. 1427 recognized Vidal’s 35 years of service as a national spiritual leader and peacemaker from being archbishop coadjutor, archbishop to archbishop emeritus.

“His work went beyond spiritual healing and the tasks of leading his archdiocese in the confines of the Catholic Church. He was a peace-seeker and peacemaker, mediating and brokering whenever a conflict in governance, labor and social relations would erupt-and his help was sought, thus assisting the community and the country,” read the resolution.

Aside from del Mar, the resolution is also introduced by Representatives Rodrigo Abellanosa, Gerald Anthony Gullas, Wilfredo Caminero, Gwendolyn Garcia, Benhur Salimbangon, Ramon Durano VI, Jonas Cortes, Peter John Calderon and Aileen Radaza. It was filed on October 24.

The House of Representatives, House Resolution No. 53, recognized on December 1, 2016, during the first regular session of the 15th Congress, the outstanding service of Vidal to Cebuanos and the rest of the nation.

“Cardinal Vidal's passing has caused both grief and solace: sorrow over the loss of a beloved spiritual leader and some consolation he would find his own peace. Yet his good deeds would inspire others to follow his example,” House Resolution No. 1427 read.

The resolution also expressed condolences to the family, relatives and friends, as well as to Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, the bishops and priests of the Archdiocese of Cebu. (FREEMAN)
