3,000 jobs up for grabs today

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – At least 3,000 vacant positions will be available in today's Local Jobs Fair organized by the Provincial Employment Services Office at the Capitol grounds.

Mathea Baguia, Capitol consultant for employment services, said there are 38 local companies participating in today's event. Jobs in manufacturing, construction and services such as BPOs, hotels, fast food chains are available.

Baguia said, unlike the overseas jobs fair where applicants have to undergo the final interview, in local jobs fair the human resource officer can already decide if the applicant is hired or not.

She believes that conducting jobs fair is vital in solving unemployment problem in the country. She added that in jobs fair the companies are gathered in one venue and the applicant does not have to look for the location of the company.

Aside from local jobs fair, PESO will be offering "one-stop shop" for those who want to avail of government services.

The National Bureau of Investigation, PhilHealth, Pag-ibig and SSS will join the one-stop shop event today. Also, the provincial prosecutor's office will give services to those who need legal assistance.

Meanwhile, the Cebu City government will also hold a Labor Day run today. It will be preceded by a Mass at 4:30 a.m. as part of the opening rites of SugBonanza 2016, which offers different services to the people.

The "SugBonanza" by the Cebu City government will follow at 8 a.m. where different services will be available to the people. A Labor Day street parade will follow after the SugBonanza from Fuente Osmeña to Plaza Independencia.
