Workers to get holiday pay on Jan. 28

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has reminded employers to grant additional pay to workers who will report to work on Chinese New Year, Jan. 28.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello said employers must abide by the pay rules governing the observance of the Chinese New Year, which has been declared a special non-working holiday.

Employees who will work during the holiday will be paid an additional 30 percent of their daily rate and another 30 percent overtime pay in excess of eight hours.

If the holiday falls on the workers’ rest day, they will be paid an additional 50 percent of their daily rate for the first eight hours of work.

Workers will receive an additional 30 percent for services in excess of eight hours.

The “no work, no pay” policy applies for those who will choose not to report to work.
