CEU targets UCBL sweep vs Olivarez
MANILA, Philippines - Centro Escolar University guns for a sweep of the first round elims as it takes on Olivarez College today in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) at the Olivarez Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque.
Led by JK Casino and Congolese center Rodrigue Ebondo, the CEU Scorpions romped to their fifth straight win in the seven-team tournament with a 107-75 rout of the Bulacan State University last Thursday.
The Scorpions, however, expect a fierce challenge from the Sea Lions when they clash at 12 noon.
For one, the Sea Lions are also on a roll, winning their last three games after dropping their opening assignment to the BSU Gold Gears, 96-91.
In their latest win, Casino fired 15 points and dished off five assists while the 6-foot-6 Ebondo added 13 points and 12 boards.
While CEU coach Yong Garcia has still Orlan Wamar and Samboy de Leon to count for the added firepower, he’s not taking the Sea Lions for granted.
“You can’t assume to be the best in the tournament until it’s over. Besides, Olivarez College is also a strong team,” said Garcia.
